About this site

Perceval Gibbon’s writing occupies a significant place in South African literature, but his work remains difficult to locate, and as yet no comprehensive bibliography or biography exists to inform the interested reader or researcher. Thanks to Pieter Williams’ years of scholarly enquiry, Gibbon has become more visible to the public. A notable milestone in this process was Williams’ 1983 edition of Gibbon’s 1911 masterpiece, the novel Margaret Harding.  Pieter Williams started building this online repository to make his papers and collection widely accessible and to provide a basis for the future study of a remarkable literary figure. Since Williams’ death in 2015, Graham Stewart has continued to work on completing the site.
